Severe hypoglycemia

Go to clinical order set IWK_TRHY “Treatment for Hypoglycemia in Children and Youth with Diabetes"

Patients less than 4 years of age AND less than 20 kg

0.5 mg IM (preferred)/Subcutaneous once

Patients less than 4 years of age AND  20 kg and greater

1 mg IM (preferred)/Subcutaneous once

Patients 4 years and older 

3 mg (1 actuation) intranasal once . If no response after 15 minutes, may repeat dose using a new device. NOTE: inhalation not necessary.

Anaphylaxis in Emergency Department (Refractory)

Go to clinical order set IWK ANED

20 to 30 micrograms/kg (maximum 1 mg/dose) IV/IO x 1, followed by 5 to 10 micrograms/minute as continuous infusion (IV/IO)
